Clans — Overview Premium

Let your members form their own short-lived sub-communities inside your server — each with a unique tag, invite code, roster, application flow, and its own category of text and voice channels.

Overview

Clans is a Mokito Premium feature that lets your members create and run their own clans inside your Discord server. A clan is a named, tagged group of members with its own roster, its own invite code, and (optionally) its own private category of text and voice channels. The clan owner manages membership, can promote staff, kick members, transfer ownership, and disband the clan when they're done.

Clans are designed to be temporary by default. Channels expire when they go inactive or when a hard lifetime cap is reached, which keeps your channel list from filling up with abandoned clan rooms. The clan itself persists after its channels close, so the owner can re-spawn channels whenever activity picks back up.

What are Clans

A clan bundles six pieces:

How it works

The [TAG] nickname prefix

When a member joins a clan, Mokito prepends the clan's tag to their per-server nickname as a [TAG] prefix. Their global Discord username is never changed — only the nickname inside your server. The member's previous nickname is remembered, so when they leave the clan, are kicked, or the clan disbands, their old nickname is restored.

Server owners are never re-nicknamed. If the clan owner happens to also be the Discord server owner, Mokito skips the nick change (Discord blocks it anyway), logs a note, and DMs them so they know the tag wasn't applied.

Invite codes

Every clan gets a random 7-character invite code when it's created. The code is locked at creation and never changes — even if the clan's name or tag is changed later. The owner and staff can retrieve it at any time with /clan-invite-code or on the clan's overview page in the web panel. Members share the code with people they want to invite; the recipient uses /clan-join with the code, or pastes it into the Join page on the web panel.

Clan roles

Each clan member has one of three app-level roles. These are not Discord roles — they only govern what a member can do inside the clan.

RoleWhat they can do
Owner 👑Everything. Change the clan's name, tag, description, avatar, and join mode. Promote, demote, kick, and transfer ownership. Spawn and close channels. Disband the clan. Approve or deny applications. The owner must transfer ownership before they can leave.
Staff 🛡️Edit the clan's description and avatar. Kick members. Approve or deny applications. Spawn and close channels. Staff cannot change the name, tag, or join mode, and cannot promote, demote, transfer, or disband.
Member Use the clan's channels, view the roster, retrieve the invite code, and leave the clan. No management actions.

Join modes

Each clan picks one of three join modes. The owner can change the mode at any time on the clan Settings page.

ModeWhat happens when someone uses the invite code
AutoThe member joins the clan instantly. No approval step. This is the default for new clans.
ApplyAn application is submitted to the clan's pending queue. The owner or staff approve or deny it from the clan overview page (or the web panel). Until approved, the applicant is not a member and does not get the tag or channel access.
Deny (closed)The clan is closed to new members. Using the invite code returns "this clan is not accepting new members." Existing members can still leave.

Clan channels

The owner (or staff) can spawn a private channel category for the clan. Mokito creates a category plus one text channel and one voice channel inside it. @everyone is denied View and Connect, so only clan members can see and use the channels. The category is named after the clan, the text channel is named tag-text, and the voice channel is named TAG Voice.

For clans with more than 30 members, Mokito creates a temporary Discord role for the clan and grants access through that role. For clans with 30 or fewer members, Mokito grants access with individual permission overwrites per member. This keeps large clans manageable and small clans lightweight.

Only one set of channels can be live at a time. If the owner closes the channels (or they expire), they can re-spawn a fresh set later — the clan itself is not deleted.

Channel expiry

Clan channels are temporary. Two timers govern when they close:

Both values are configured on the Clans settings page. When channels close, the category, text channel, voice channel, and any temporary clan role are deleted. The clan row and its roster are preserved.

Applications

In apply mode, every join attempt creates a pending application. The owner and staff see the pending list on the clan's overview page and can approve or deny each one. An applicant can withdraw their own application at any time before it's decided. Once approved, the applicant becomes a member and goes through the normal join flow (tag nick, channel access). Denied applications are closed; the applicant can re-apply later.

Abuse cooldown

To stop members from churn-creating and abandoning clans, Mokito tracks rapid abandonment. If a member creates or joins a clan and then leaves or disbands it within 24 hours, and they've done this 3 or more times in the last 7 days, they get a 24-hour cooldown during which they cannot create or join any clan. The cooldown message tells them exactly when it expires.

A Mokito Premium feature

Clans is a 100% Premium feature. Every capability — creating, joining, applications, channels, slash commands, the web panel — requires an active Mokito Premium subscription for the server. In a server without Premium, members see a locked panel that links to the Premium page, and no clan slash commands are registered with Discord.

When Premium lapses

If a server loses Premium while clans exist:

The 24-hour grace period is absolute. If you want to keep your clans, re-subscribe to Premium before the grace window expires. Once the purge runs, clan data cannot be recovered.

Who can use it
