Give new members a set of roles the moment they join your server, and optionally restore a returning member's previous roles when they rejoin. A free feature for every Mokito server.
Auto Roles lets you pick one or more roles that Mokito adds to every member automatically, right after they join your server. You can also turn on Reassign roles on rejoin, so a member who leaves and comes back gets their previous roles back — useful if you do not want people dodging mutes by leaving, or if you do not want to rebuild someone's role set by hand after they return. A blacklist lets you name roles that should never be restored, even when rejoin reassignment is on.
The settings live at Roles → Auto Roles in the guild dashboard sidebar. Everything is configured on a single page: a role multi-select, an on/off toggle for rejoin reassignment, a Get all members current roles action, a blacklist multi-select, and a single Save button.
When a member joins your server, Mokito checks your Auto Roles settings and acts on what it finds:
Auto roles are always applied to brand-new members. Rejoin reassignment only matters for members who have been in your server before.
Only the server owner and managers can access and change the Auto Roles settings. Moderators, support team members, and regular members cannot see this page. For details on what each dashboard role can do, see Dashboard Roles.
The page opens with a hero showing the feature name and your server name. Below it, a single form holds three sections and a Save button at the bottom:
This is the core of the feature. The role multi-select lists every role in your server. Type to search by role name, or paste a role ID. Selected roles appear as colored chips you can remove one at a time.
Click the search field, start typing a role name, and pick the role from the filtered list. You can select as many roles as you want. Every role you add here is given to every new member the instant they join. There is no per-role order — all selected roles are assigned at once.
You are not limited to a single auto role. A common setup is to add a Member role plus a News or Announcements role, so new members can see your announcements channel and ping the rest of the server's content right away.
If a role you have selected is later deleted from Discord, Mokito will simply skip it when assigning roles — it will not error, and the rest of your auto roles are still applied. The deleted role stays in your selection list until you remove it from the multi-select or save the form again. Roles Mokito no longer recognizes are dropped the next time you save.
By default, when a member leaves your server, their roles are gone with them. If they rejoin later, they start from scratch. Turning Reassign roles on rejoin on changes that: a returning member gets back the roles they had right before they left, so they do not lose their progression, verification status, or any role-locked permissions by taking a break.
This is especially useful for stopping members from clearing a mute by leaving and rejoining, or for not having to manually rebuild someone's role set after they come back.
The toggle is an X / ✓ switch next to the setting's name. Click the ✓ side to turn rejoin reassignment on, or the X side to turn it off. The change takes effect after you click Save auto role settings at the bottom of the form.
When a member rejoins, Mokito looks up the roles that member had right before they left. Those roles are combined with your auto roles (so the member gets both their old roles and any new-member roles you have configured), and any roles in your blacklist are removed from that set. The result is then added to the member.
Restored roles are added to the member — they do not remove any roles Discord already granted. If a returning member came back with a role that is also in your auto roles, it is only assigned once.
Rejoin reassignment works because Mokito keeps a member's record when they leave rather than deleting it. Their previous roles stay attached to that record, so there is something to restore from when they come back. You do not need to do anything to enable this — it is how Mokito tracks members by default.
Below the reassign toggle is a green button labeled Get all members current roles. This action pulls every current member's roles from Discord and saves them, so that rejoin reassignment has an accurate baseline to restore from for members who joined before you turned the feature on.
Run it once after you first turn on Reassign roles on rejoin. From that point on, Mokito keeps member roles up to date as members come and go, so you do not normally need to run it again. You might run it again after a big role reorganization in Discord, to make sure the saved baseline matches the roles you just reassigned across the server.
The action fetches members in batches and may take a moment on large servers. A confirmation modal opens before anything happens, explaining what it will do. Confirm to run the sync; a success message reports how many members were updated.
The button is disabled while Reassign roles on rejoin is off, and a note under the button tells you so. If you turn reassign off after running a sync, the saved roles are not erased — they stay on each member's record — but they are not restored on rejoin until you turn reassign back on.
The blacklist is a second role multi-select. Every role you add here is skipped when Mokito restores a returning member's previous roles. Put simply: even if a member had a blacklisted role before they left, that role is not given back automatically on rejoin.
Some roles should not come back by themselves. The classic examples are your Admin or Moderator role (you do not want someone who left as a mod to quietly regain mod powers by rejoining) and your Muted role (the whole point of rejoin reassignment is to stop mute evasion — blacklisting the mute role keeps the dodge from working). Add any role that should require manual action to regrant.
The blacklist only affects rejoin reassignment. It does not stop auto roles from being assigned. A role you have placed in both your auto roles and your blacklist will still be added to brand-new members — it just will not be restored to returning members.
If Reassign roles on rejoin is off, the blacklist has no effect — nothing is being restored, so there is nothing to skip. The blacklist field is still saved along with the rest of the form, so it is ready the next time you turn reassign on.
A single Save auto role settings button at the bottom of the form saves everything at once: your auto roles, the reassign toggle, your blacklist, and (implicitly) the state of the Get all members current roles button. Make your changes, click save, and a success message confirms the settings were stored. The Get all members current roles action is a separate button with its own confirmation modal — it is not part of the save.
