Connected Accounts

Link third-party accounts to your Mokito profile. Steam is the first provider; additional providers will appear here as they are added. This page covers what the page shows, how linking works, how to disconnect, and how Mokito retains link history for server staff.

Overview

The Connected Accounts page in your user dashboard is where you manage the third-party accounts linked to your Mokito account. Each provider gets its own card on the page showing whether you currently have an active connection, and giving you buttons to link, refresh, or disconnect.

Steam is the first provider. When you connect Steam, Mokito remembers your Steam ID, your Steam profile name, and your Steam avatar. This lets server staff verify who you are across platforms and lets Mokito grant you Steam Link roles in servers that use them.

What it does

Connecting an account is voluntary and per-user. You sign in to Mokito with Discord (your primary login), then connect Steam as an additional identity. The connection is tied to your Mokito account — it is not per-server.

Who can use it

Every Mokito user can open the Connected Accounts page. There is no server-level gate on linking or disconnecting your own Steam account — the connection belongs to your Mokito account, not to any individual server.

The server-side Steam features are Premium. The Connected Accounts page and the act of linking Steam are free for every user. The guild-side features that consume the link — Steam Link API access, the Steam Link role, and the /steam-profile command — are part of Mokito Premium for the server, not for the person linking.

The Connected Accounts page

The page lives at Connected Accounts in your user dashboard sidebar. It shows one card per provider.

No connection yet

When you have not yet linked a provider, the card shows a placeholder avatar, the message "No Steam account connected", and a Sign in with Steam button. Clicking the button starts the linking flow.

A connected account

When you have an active Steam connection, the card shows:

Two buttons appear next to a connected account:

Linking Steam

Linking Steam is a two-step sign-in flow: first Discord (your Mokito login), then Steam.

  1. Open the Connected Accounts page in your user dashboard.
  2. Click Sign in with Steam.
  3. You are sent to Steam's login page. Sign in there and approve the connection.
  4. Steam sends you back to Mokito. Your Steam ID, profile name, and avatar are saved to your Mokito account and the card updates to show your connected account.
From the public Steam connection guide. If you are not yet logged in to Mokito, you can start at the public Steam connection guide page. It walks you through signing in with Discord first, then drops you directly on the Connected Accounts page to finish the Steam step.

Re-linking the same account

If you click Refresh (or go through the sign-in flow again with the same Steam account), Mokito updates the existing connection with your current profile name and avatar. The "Connected" timestamp is refreshed. No duplicate connection is created — the same Steam ID maps to one row on your account.

Linking a different account

If you go through the sign-in flow with a different Steam account while you already have an active connection:

Switching accounts does not erase the history. Server staff can still see every Steam ID you have linked, including the ones you disconnected. This is intentional — it prevents someone from evading moderation by unlinking and relinking a different account.

Refresh

The Refresh button re-runs the Steam sign-in flow against your current active connection. Use it when you have changed your Steam profile name or avatar on Steam and want Mokito to pick up the new values. If you go through the flow with the same Steam ID, the existing connection is updated in place.

Disconnecting

Disconnecting removes the active Steam connection from your account. It does not delete the link history — see Data retention for why.

The disconnect confirmation

Clicking Disconnect opens a confirmation modal that explains what will happen:

Click Disconnect in the modal to confirm, or close the modal to cancel. There is no separate "Are you sure?" pop-up — the modal is the confirmation step.

What disconnecting does

Reconnecting after disconnecting

You can reconnect Steam at any time by clicking Sign in with Steam. If you reconnect the same Steam ID you previously disconnected, it becomes active again and the card updates. If you connect a different Steam ID, the previously disconnected row stays on record and the new one becomes active.

Data retention

Mokito never deletes a connected account link. This section explains what is kept, who can see it, and why.

Links are never deleted

When you disconnect a provider, or when you link a different account that replaces an existing one, the old link is marked as disconnected but the record is never removed. The Steam ID, profile name, avatar path, and the time it was connected and disconnected are all retained.

Your Connected Accounts page only ever shows your most recent active connection per provider. Disconnected links are hidden from you. A provider card shows either your one active connection or the "not connected" state — never a list of past connections.

What server staff can see

Server staff (owners and managers) in a server with Mokito Premium can see the full connection history for a member, including disconnected links, through two surfaces:

Premium gate on staff views. The member profile Steam section and the /steam-profile command only work in servers with an active Mokito Premium subscription. In a non-Premium server, the Steam section is replaced by a Premium lock callout and the command returns a "Steam integration is a Mokito Premium feature" message.

Why links are kept

The retention rule exists so that a member cannot evade moderation by disconnecting and relinking a different account. If someone links Steam account A, gets reported, then disconnects A and links B, server staff can still see that account A was linked — the history is not wiped by the act of disconnecting. This is the same reason disconnecting does not delete the record: the link is hidden from the user, but preserved for the audit trail.

Disconnecting is not erasure. If your goal is to make a Steam ID untraceable, disconnecting will not achieve that — the record remains visible to server staff. Disconnect only if you no longer want the active connection; it does not scrub the history.

Future providers

Steam is the first provider on the Connected Accounts page. The page is built to accommodate additional providers (Twitch, etc.) in the future. When a new provider is added, it will appear as its own card on the page with the same shape: an empty state with a "Sign in with [provider]" button, and a connected state showing your profile name, ID, avatar, and a refresh/disconnect pair. The retention rule will apply identically: links are never deleted, only marked disconnected.

Limits & Edge Cases

Limit or edge case What happens
One active connection per provider Only your most recent active connection per provider is shown. Linking a different account for the same provider marks the old one disconnected.
Same Steam ID re-linked The existing row is updated in place — profile name, avatar, and connected timestamp are refreshed. No duplicate is created.
Disconnected rows Hidden from your Connected Accounts page entirely. Retained for server staff review.
Avatar download failure If Mokito cannot download your Steam avatar at link time, the connection is still saved — the avatar slot shows a placeholder icon instead.
Steam login failure If the Steam sign-in callback fails (Steam returns an error or an invalid ID), you are redirected back to the Connected Accounts page with an error message. No connection is created.
Disconnect with no active connection If you have no active Steam connection, the disconnect button does not appear. Calling the disconnect route with no active connection is a no-op.
Steam Link roles on disconnect If a Premium server granted you a Steam Link role based on the connection, disconnecting removes those roles from you in that server. Reconnecting reinstates them (if the server still has the role configured).
Steam Link roles on connect When you link Steam, every Premium server you are a member of that has configured Steam Link roles grants those roles to you immediately.
Per-user, not per-server The connection belongs to your Mokito account. Linking Steam once applies to every server you are in that uses Steam features — you do not link separately per server.
Staff history requires Premium The member profile Steam section and /steam-profile command only work in Premium servers. The Connected Accounts page itself (your own view) is free for everyone.
